Sam Lemheney
Chief of Shows & Events, Pennsylvania Horticultural Society

Sam directs the planning and creation of the major events produced by PHS, including the Fall Garden Festival and the Philadelphia Flower Show, the largest indoor horticultural event in the world and the oldest in the United States. He made his debut as Flower Show designer in 2005.

Sam's lifelong association with horticulture began with his grandfather, who owned a landscape nursery, and his father, who owned and operated a flower shop in the region. He began his career at the Walt Disney World Co. as an intern at the Land Horticulture Science Program in 1989. He received a B.S. in Plant Science from the University of Delaware in 1991 and began his full time career at Disney in June of that year, eventually becoming the Area Manager of the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival. Managing the combined talents and energy of Disney's entire horticulture staff, Sam organized and coordinated the transformation of the award-winning gardens of Epcot into one of the most exciting flower and garden events in the country.

Sam and his creative team designed the central feature for the 2011 Flower Show, “Springtime in Paris,” which included an illuminated Eiffel Tower, and the three-part entrance feature for the 2012 show, “Hawaii: Islands of Aloha.” He is currently planning and coordinating the exhibits for the 2013 presentation, “Brilliant!” Sam has also traveled the world as a judge for the renowned flower shows in Singapore, Japan and South Korea, and has judged the floats at the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, Calif. He is an active member of the International Festivals and Events Association and served on its World Board of Directors from 2002 to 2008.
