Michael Hanley is the Area Manager for Design & Display at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, FL. A 15-Year Cast Member, Michael has held leadership positions in Decorating, Parades, Artist Prep, Epcot Events and now, Design & Display under the global Park Event Operations Team. Michael’s work services over a million guests each year. His background in design, animation, engineering, fabrication and installation makes him uniquely qualified to present the Disney Difference.

“I would describe my design style as real life, not still life. While I create for very personal reasons, the guests are the ultimate arbiter of what works and what doesn’t.  Décor and props should never consume the space or burden the operations cast there to provide great guest service.”

In addition to catered and convention events, Michael’s team also designs festival and event merchandise shops throughout the Walt Disney World Resort. His sets and props have also appeared on Good Morning America and Univision. He has also done work at the Orange County Convention Center for clients such as Lucasfilm as well as many local area hotels and convention spaces. Michael also provided props and backdrops for First Lady Michelle Obama’s kick-off to the Healthy Food Initiative at Disney Theme Parks in Washington, D.C.

“My role is to tell a story, create an atmosphere that extends beyond the space. My purpose is to create an emotional response for each guest. I may not shake the hand of our guests, but I hope my work touches them all.”
