Laila R. Brock, Director of Events and Team Operations for the Orange Bowl Committee (OBC), is responsible for the implementation of the majority of the OBC’s nearly one hundred (100) annual ancillary events and team related functions. The OBC is a self-sustaining, independent organization that supports and produces events that enhance the image, economy and culture of South Florida. The Orange Bowl Festival features a year-round schedule of events, culminating with the Discover Orange Bowl in January. In her role, Laila oversees the host hotel operations, transportation, hospitality and social functions for the teams participating in the Discover Orange Bowl. She is also responsible for the planning, management and execution of the OBC’s festival and community outreach events including the AvMed Orange Bowl Coaches Luncheon, Bud Light Orange Bowl Game Day Fan Zone, Bacardi Orange Bowl Rhapsody, Orange Bowl VIP Pre-Game Party presented by Bank of America, NCAA Football Youth Skills Clinic hosted by Orange Bowl, and Orange Bowl Youth Football Alliance (YFA) Championships. In January 2013, in addition to the Discover Orange Bowl, the OBC also hosted the Discover BCS National Championship game. During this unique double hosting year, Laila managed all of the Orange Bowl events as well as the events leading up to the National Championship game including the AT &T National Championship Presidents’ Dinner at Indian Creek Country Club and the Bacardi National Championship Gala at the Miami Seaquarium. Prior to joining to the Orange Bowl Committee, Laila served as the academic counselor for the Florida Atlantic University Football team. In 2004, Laila began her career as the Assistant Director for the Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP) Program, a program of the National Consortium for Academics and Sports. In her role with MVP, Laila conducted seminars that emphasized student-athletes’ leadership skills. Laila is an active member of Meeting Planners International (MPI), the International Special Events Society (ISES) and Women In Sports and Events (WISE). She has served as a moderator and panelist at several events focused conferences including the Football Bowl Associations annual Operations Director’s meeting (2012) and the Johnson & Wales University Sports Entertainment Events Conference. Laila earned the Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) designation in 2012. In 2011, Laila was recognized by her peers as a nominee for Biz Bash Events Magazine’s Corporate Event Planner of the Year. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications and Mass Media Research from the Pennsylvania State University, as well as a Master’s degree in Counselor Education, Higher Education from the same university. |
