Heather Warthen, Chief Events Officer/Chief Operating Officer 
22nd Century Media 

Heather Warthen, 35, was the first employee for 22nd Century Media, the largest media
company in Chicagoland to affluent households with the most effective solutions for advertising
through hyperlocal community based content, when the company began in 2005.
Warthen over saw all the award winning content creation for the company, as 22nd Century
Media grew from 10,000 homes in its first publication to its nearly 175,000 homes today. She
has helped make 22nd Century Media the fastest growing news company in the Chicago area
and one of the fastest in the country. During her management, the company grew from not only
one but to 13 titles. Also, under her management, the company has received more than 100
awards from the Illinois Press Association, and six at the national level from the National
Newspaper Association.

For eight years, Warthen served in various editorial roles including editor of The Orland Park
Prairie and Managing Editor of 22nd Century Media’s seven southwest publications. She is
currently Chief Operating Officer and Chief Events Officer. She is in charge of planning,
coordinating and executing community events for 22nd Century Media.
Warthen was named 2009 Editor of the Year for NonDailies by the Illinois Press Association
and has won several IPA photography and writing awards. Most recently, she was awarded
third place for Best Obituary from the National Newspaper Association in its Better Newspaper
Editorial Contest.

Warthen also served as the Orland Park Area Chamber of Commerce President in 2015.
A 2003 graduate of Lewis University, Warthen has a bachelor's degree in print journalism as
well as minors in public relations and multimedia. In 2010, the university awarded her with a
Young Alumni Achievement Award.
